Dr. Maoyi Cai has served as a board member of the Acupuncture Committee of Alberta, Canada, since 2003. He was also the Dean of Academic Affairs at Alberta College of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, between 1997 and 2005. Dr. Cai passed the American and Canadian medical licensing examinations, and was certified as an M.D. in 1997 and 1999, respectively. Between 1990 and 1996, Dr. Cai taught a variety of biomedical science courses at colleges and universities in Texas and New Mexico. Dr. Cai practiced medicine, in the Shanghai Medical University, from 1984 to 1990. Dr. Cai joined the faculty of the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in January, 2006.

Yong Cui, Lic.Ac.Cui

Prior to joining the faculty of the Texas College of TCM, Cui served as Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer at Shandong University of TCM, teaching TCM courses to both native Chinese speakers and English-speaking students. His teaching is enriched by eight years’ experience at Shandong University’s Affiliated Hospital. A published author, Cui also served as researcher and Vice-Chief Editor of Modern Research and Application of Prescriptions of Compendium of Chinese Materia Medica (Ben Cao Gang Mu), and Practical Prescriptions for Apoplexy. Dr. Cui has been a member of the faculty at Texas College of TCM since 2001.

Mr. Su’s interest in traditional Chinese medicine is deepened and informed by his own family’s long-time involvement with TCM in China. A graduate of TCTCM’s Master of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program, Dr. Su went on to earn his Ph.D. in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the prestigious Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Zheng served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor , and Associate Dean at Shandong University of TCM. He is a member of the China National Committee of Chinese Medicinal Formulae, paper reviewer of Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Journal of Shanxi Traditional Chinese Medicine. In addition to his more than 20 years of teaching, research, and clinical research experience, Dr. Zheng has almost 20 papers and books of TCM published in both Chinese and English. Dr. Zheng joined the faculty of Texas College of TCM in 2001.

Dr. Cao earned her Master's degree in 2003 and her Doctorate in 2006. She came to the college in January of 2007 with over ten years of experience as a clinician, instructor, and researcher in Traditional Chinese Medicine, specializing in Internal Medicine. She has published original research in journals such as Traditional Chinese Medicine Research and Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine on Digestion, and has edited volumes such as Methodology of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Dr. Chu has been a Licensed Acupuncturist in Texas since 2004. He became a Clinic Instructor at the Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2008. In addition to his work at the College, Dr. Chu was a founder of Dragon Springs Acupuncture and Herb Clinic in Dripping Springs, TX. He has also served as Clinic Supervisor at SDT Chinese Medicine Clinic in Taiwan.

Prior to joining the faculty of Texas College of TCM, Dr. Breeding supervised doctoral students in psychology at Columbia Pacific University and The Union Institute, and has served as an adjunct professor of psychology at Austin Community College since 2000. In addition to his six years’ teaching experience, Dr. Breeding is also a member of the advisory board of the World Association of Electroshock Survivors, and is director of Texans for Safe Education and Wildest Colts Resources. Some of Dr. Breeding’s many publications are Informed Consent and the Psychiatric Drugging of Children; True Nature and Great Misunderstandings: How We Care for Our Children According to Our Understanding; The Necessity of Madness and Unproductivity: Psychiatric Oppression Or Human Transformation; On the Making and Unmaking of a Child into a Mental Patient; Electroshock and Informed Consent; Drug Withdrawal and Emotional Recovery; The Wildest Colts Make the Best Horses; and Mental Health Care and Addiction Treatment. Dr. Breeding teaches courses in Counseling and Communications.

Jingyu Gu, Ph.D.

During his formal education, Dr. Gu has pursued his interest in classical Chinese philosophy and literature, and devoted himself particularly to the study of Taoist texts. In 1991, he founded the Tai Chi and Chi Kung Meditation Center in Austin, where he has continued his studies and teaching of tai chi and qi gong.

Luzhi Guo, Ph.D., Lic.Ac.

Dr. Guo earned her Ph.D. degree in Biological Science at University of North Texas, with a concentration in Experimental Neurobiology; her Master of Medicine degree in Clinical Research, Cardiac Division of Affiliated Hospital of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medical College, China; and her Bachelor of Medicine (U.S. Equivalent M.D.) at the Medical Department at Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medical College, China. She has also done advanced study as a World Health Organization Fellow, concentrating on Cardiac Electrophysiology (Arrhythmia and Sudden Death) Cardiac Division, Oklahoma Health Science Center. Her professional experience includes: Texas State Certified Acupuncturist/Instructor; Texas State Licensed Acupuncturist (since 1994); and Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neurobiology, Department of Biological Sciences, University of North Texas. Dr. Guo has been affiliated with TCTCM as an instructor since 1994.

Kevin Luo is a licensed acupuncturist both in TX and CA. His is also certified by NCCAOM as Diplomat of Oriental Medicine. Fluent in both English and Chinese, Kevin is a translator and editor at the People’s Medical Publishing House (PMPH) in Beijing, China’s leading publisher in biomedicine and Chinese medicine. His current teaching assignments include Point Location I and III.

Jon Porter, J.D.jonporter

Mr. Porter is a Partner in law firm McDonald, Mackay, and Weitz, L.L.P. His area of practice is licensure investigation and defense for health care professionals, administrative law, and a specialization highly relevant to the field of health care professions. He has been a member of Texas bar since 1999, and a Partner at his firm since 2003. He is a former medical licensure examiner for the State of Texas. He has several professional publications relevant to the field of acupuncture and oriental medicine, and his teaching responsibilities at Texas College of Traditional Chinese Medicine are in the area of practice management, ethics, and legal regulation of acupuncture in Texas.

meet our faculty

Our core TCM faculty received their education and training at colleges and universities in either Taiwan (Republic of China) or the People’s Republic of China. They received, at a minimum, master’s degrees, meaning that they completed five years of college and two to three years of graduate study before entering an internship program at a hospital. Each member of our faculty has experience in teaching Traditional Chinese Medicine in both Chinese and English languages to domestic and foreign students. All faculty are selected for expertise in their areas of instruction.
